Arts
The wealth of natural beauty that changes moment by moment around Sharpham House provides an ideal environment for creativity, arts and inspiration to flourish.
Over the years artists and thinkers have lived and worked on the Estate and this spirit of creative enquiry forms the basis for our programme of events.
Sharpham House has a long history of supporting the arts dating back to the 1960s with the Ash family, who owned the house at the time and who were generous patrons of the arts.
Many artists and writers have visited and stayed at Sharpham and have been enriched by the beauty of the surroundings including the poet Brian Patten, visual artist Sarah Gillespie, who collaborated on the exquisite, limited edition book View From The Boathouse Window, available for £50 by emailing [email protected]
The colourful and arresting work of the Polish painter Zdzislaw Ruszkowski is peppered through Sharpham House.
The House contains a diverse and inspiring collection of paintings and sculptures both old and new with works by 20th century sculptor Barbara Hepworth and 17th century Dutch landscape painter Aelbert Cuyp.
