Natalie's roving lens found this little creature sheltering in the shade of the undergrowth.
It's a Bank Vole - our smallest vole in the UK. They are common mammals, living in woodland, hedgerows, parks and gardens, eating fruit, nuts and small insects. They are especially keen on hazelnuts and blackberries!
They live in in shallow burrows, but they may make grassy, round nests above ground if the soil is unsuitable for digging. They have three or four litters a year, each with three to five young. Bank voles do not hibernate.
