Making Bread At the Barn

Charlie's Wholemeal Loaves

Flour, born of Earth
Weighed down with Water
Pushed to a giving solidity

Rising with warmth and Air
Matured in dark Fire
To a light crunch and softness.

Back down to Earth.

A poem by Barn retreatant John Skrine, who wrote it to celebrate the bread made by Barn Coordinator Charlie "as an exercise in including as many elements of the Elements as I could in a small space...with my thanks for a special week".

It may not be Charlie's exact method, but here's a version of The Barn's famous bread recipe here
