Our Yellowhammers play top-flight football...in our eyes, anyway.

Sharpham United is a friendly football team formed by those living and working on the Sharpham Estate.

Nicknamed the Yellow Hammers due to their striking yellow and black kit and their love of the endangered bird of the same name, Sharpham United play a brand of football not much seen today: competitive yet proudly friendly.

Sponsors include The Trust, Sharpham Wine & Cheese, the Almond Thief Bakery and Lower Sharpham Farm which is run by team captain Jack Skuse.

Says Jack: "We are proud to play a friendly style of football, which seems to attract likeminded players. And where some clubs are struggling, we seem to be an attractive option – training late on a Wednesday allows family time, but still is popular with younger players.

"We have a very well-balanced youth/experience ratio, we play to win, yet always have a smile on our faces at the end. And these occasional matches give us something to work towards."

In only their 3rd 11-a-side competitive match, Sharpham United beat Ide Green Rovers a whopping 5-2 - you can read the match report here

Sharpham United’s next outing is against Cornworthy Rovers on Thursday 31 May, 6.30pm kick-off.

  • The team trains every Wednesday, from 8pm to 9pm on KEVICCs school astroturf. For more information on the Yellow Hammers, call Captain Jack on 07816 978609
