Our resident forager Brigit-Anna McNeill writes here about one of her favourite plants to forage: the nettle & its seeds

I adore nettle seeds and by late summer, the nettle begins to set seed, small, green clusters hanging from upright stems, rich with life and potential.

These seeds are more than the next generation of the plant. They are a potent herbal medicine in their own right.

Nettle seeds are traditionally used as a restorative for deep fatigue, especially adrenal exhaustion, burnout, or long-term depletion. They offer gentle support to the endocrine and nervous systems, feeding the body rather than forcing it.

The seeds are adaptogenic, meaning they help the body find balance under stress. Some herbalists use them to support kidney function, boost mental clarity, and rebuild energy in those who are burnt out or recovering from illness.

Harvest while still green, before the seeds turn brown. Green seeds are alive with vitality and are considered the most medicinal.

Use sparingly: A small daily dose, just a teaspoon—is often enough. Eat them fresh, dry and sprinkle them on food, or blend into honey or ghee for a slower medicine.

Energetically, nettle seed is steadying and firming. It’s a green reminder of resilience. A quiet strength that helps reweave the body’s inner fabric.

Let this be a season of tending what’s tired. Of listening for what nourishes. Of honouring the wild seeds that restore us.
