Food & Drink
In line with sustainable practices across the Sharpham Estate, the cooks in Sharpham House produce high-quality, seasonal, vegetarian food for people that stay in Sharpham House and Woodland.
We source food whenever possible from our kitchen garden and support local food suppliers.
Our policy
Our Ethos
The Trust operates vegetarian kitchens offering a healthy, balanced diet that includes eggs and dairy products. We try to source as many local products as we can, including vegetables and fruit from our own gardens. All meals are prepared by our own cooks or at The Barn by fellow retreatants.
Our Approach
- Operating vegetarian kitchens is simpler in terms of health and safety and allows retreatants to be involved.
- A vegetarian diet has a much lower environmental impact than one including meat or fish.
- The Trust wants to give people an opportunity to experience alternative approaches as part of our charitable objectives
Food allergies, intolerances and catering options
Please tell us well in advance of your stay of any food allergies or intolerances you may have.
Participants on Sharpham House, Barn, Woodland retreats and courses can tell us this on the Booking Form via a link we sent you in your confirmation email.
If these options we offer don’t meet an individual’s needs, he or she must contact The Trust prior to booking to discuss whether alternatives are possible. The Trust cannot accommodate alternative diet requests without prior agreement.
Our kitchens are not allergen-free.
We always label dishes containing allergens you have told us about. Whilst on retreat, please speak to the House Manager or cooks for more information on allergens in our dishes.
You can alert us to any food allergies you have by emailing [email protected] with the details.

The food cooked in Sharpham House gets rave reviews from our visitors and guests.
The meals were fantastic and prepared with great love, care and attention. Even as a meat eater, I loved the vegetarian food and did not miss meat at all
We include award-winning Sharpham Cheese – made here on the Estate - in our menus.
Drinking water at both Sharpham House and The Barn is provided from springs, which are regularly tested to ensure a clean, safe supply.
Our kitchen is fish and meat-free. Our food is organic where possible, but not totally.
We can make Sharpham Wine and apple juice from our orchards available to your group if you are hiring Sharpham House for a residential. Please discuss this with the House Manager. We do not allow participants to bring their own alcohol.
