Poem: How I Would Like To Know How To Write

15th May, 2026

Barn Coordinator Claire is currently reading a collection of Buddhist poetry called Tomorrow's Moon.

This poem is one of two favourites she's found so far...

How I Would Like To Know How To Write

by Chandra Candiani

how I would like to know how to write

a letter to the woods

to a river or

to a quality of the sky

not a letter

of human regrets

or of indignant reproaches

but paper that blossoms

into gems drawing blood

risks of high tide

blind clear sky or clouds

without wind how I would like

a language of pine needles

of resin and floating

trout a cloudy

language obedient

to the most subtle changes.

This poem features in Tomorrow's Moon, a poetry collection by lay and monastic members of the Forest Sangha that's available for free download here (with the consent of the authors).
