We hosted an apple-pressing day at Sharpham House earlier this month - with help from our volunteers.
They helped us to press our organic apples, and got to enjoy the results of their hard work afterwards.
We will be storing and serving the lovely apple juice made that day to retreatants staying on our Estate, in the Sharpham House, the Coach House and on our Woodland retreats.
Our Volunteer Coordinator, Kat White, was involved in arranging the day. Here’s what she had to say about the experience: "Working out on the terrace at the front of Sharpham House, overlooking the river as the sun was shining, we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day to make apple juice!"
"We are very grateful to our Conservation and Garden volunteers for helping us to harvest apples from our orchard in preparation for the day. And a huge thank you to everyone - the team and volunteers - who offered their time to wash, mill, press, bottle, and pasteurise all the apples, making 187 bottles of juice in total!"
"Despite the many steps, we achieved a lot in a relatively short space of time, sustained of course by plenty of tea, cake, and jacket potatoes!"
We feel lucky to have been able to host everyone for this event and produce organic food and drink for their enjoyment. We are very grateful for the continuous help our volunteers provide, and consider them integral to the functioning of The Sharpham Estate.
