Retreats at Sharpham

Our 550-acre Estate is home to three exceptional retreat venues.

The Barn Retreat Centre

The Barn Retreat Centre

The Barn Retreat offers 6-day meditation retreats throughout the year in a wonderful converted Devon Linhay. It is listed in The Sunday Telegraph's 'Eight of the best retreats in Britain and Europe' and based on a contemporary approach to Western Buddhism.

The Barn offers retreatants the chance to experience mindfulness practice, teacher-led inquiry and working meditation in our organic garden - developing a mindfulness practice for everyday life.

Sharpham House

Sharpham House

Sharpham House offers secular mindfulness retreats with the opportunity to stay in a beautiful Grade 1-listed Georgian mansion house at the centre of Capability Brown parkland, with superb gardens offering delightful views over the River Dart. Retreats at Sharpham House are fully catered for with house-keeping staff in attendance. Retreats include 3-day Mindfulness for Beginners, as well as themed retreats such as yoga and walking.

Woodland Retreats

Woodland Retreats

Woodland Retreats offer a unique chance to stay in our woodland campsite in the grounds of Sharpham House with a focus on mindfulness and 'coming to our senses' by connecting to the natural world.

Mindfulness Courses

Our programme of Mindfulness Introductory Days and 8-week courses are designed to help you understand and apply the principles of this valuable technique in your daily life.

Mindfulness is now widely recognised within the National Health Service as a clinically-proven practice which can help towards reducing stress and enhancing overall levels of health and well-being.

Most people who undertake a regular mindfulness practice report lasting physical and psychological benefits.

"A wonderfully nurturing and beautiful space to deepen my meditation practice"

Why mindfulness at Sharpham?

Sharpham is an internationally-recognised centre for mindfulness, offering a rich and diverse programme of mindfulness courses and retreats.

"I arrived feeling anxious and tense and left feeling light, nurtured, whole and strong. A perfect week, thank-you!"

Sharpham has a long-standing involvement with mindfulness meditation stretching back over 30 years with the founders of the charity Maurice and Ruth Ash. We are a leading centre internationally for mindfulness offering a rich, varied and authentic programme of retreats and courses with different ‘doorways’ to learning about and experiencing mindful awareness.

Our programme includes opportunities for those new to mindfulness, as well as those looking to re-connect with or deepen their practice in a welcoming, safe and non-judgmental setting. Last year over 1,500 people benefitted from retreats or courses held on the Estate.

We offer courses and retreats for anyone looking to develop or sustain a mindfulness practice including:

  • Secular mindfulness courses and retreats - with teachers who have trained in Mindfulness Based Approaches and adhere to the UK Best Practice Guidelines for Mindfulness Teachers
  • Contemporary Dharma retreats - for those interested in exploring the original field and roots of mindfulness from a Buddhist perspective
  • Themed mindfulness retreats - linked to our guiding vision of creative enquiry and of connecting people to the natural world
