Meet: Lower Sharpham Barton Farm


Events at The Sharpham TrustJoin our wildlife leaders on a friendly nature stroll looking for butterflies, crickets, grasshoppers and more.

Starting at the farmyard, we will head out onto the meadows alongside the Sharpham Drive cycle path and down to the reed marsh by the River Dart with sweep nets, pooters and picture ID guides in hand!

Maximum distance 1–1.5 miles, some uneven ground, mud tracks, sloping grassland paths and gentle up-and-down hills.

This day is for you if you are:

  • Adults and children of any age and experience looking to learn more about the natural world
  • A fan of the Great Outdoors
  • Looking for a fascinating, family event

This event is FREE but we still need you to book in order to reserve your place.

The maximum number of children will be 12, aged from 5-12. Each child MUST be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Babes in arms are welcome too but parents must be able to carry them for the walk. The route is only suitable for all-terrain pushchairs.

Please inform us in advance if you can't attend - we may be able to give your place to another.

Children will each receive a free small gift for attending  - related to minibeast collecting!

What should you bring?

Marble white butterfly

  • Paper and pen if you want to take notes or make sketches
  • A magnifying glass if you have one (if not we have some spares)
  • Waterproofs and layers
  • Good comfy outdoor shoes or wellies
  • A camera if you want to take pictures
  • Bring a healthy snack if you get peckish along the way
  • A bottle of water
  • Bottle of water
  • Insect repellent if you wish

We advise that you wear long trousers to avoid scratches, cuts and possible ticks.
