Badger and Bat Watch

Thursday 5 April, 6.30pm to 9pm

Learn about some of Britain's nocturnal creatures during this exciting new family-friendly evening event at Sharpham.

Horse-shoe bat

Sharpham Estate is a fantastic home for some of our seldom-seen mammals. With the help of our guide Mike Langman we'll settle down to hopefully see badgers emerging from their sets and then watch bats flying around the gardens and barns. With the aid of a bat detector we should be able to identify 3-4 different species, including the rare Lesser Horseshoe bat if we’re lucky. It'll be a wonderful and exciting experience but you'll need to be quiet and patient to see some of our most secretive and shy mammals!

Make sure you are well wrapped up - hat, gloves and a warm coat are recommended as are a mat or small folding stool (that you can fit into your rucksack) to sit on. Bring a torch too as it will be dark walking around the gardens.

This day is for you if you are:

  • an adult or child of any age who is looking to discover more about wildlife
  • Interested in learning more about the natural world
  • A fan of the Great Outdoors
  • Looking for an exciting and fun family evening
