Outdoors Project
Video: An overview of the work of The Sharpham Outdoors Project
The Sharpham Estate includes 550 acres of stunning scenery and a diverse range of environments, from the Dart Estuary to the ancient woodlands that clothe the sides of this dramatically beautiful waterway. Reed bed, salt marsh, streams, ponds and farmland make the Sharpham Estate one of the most varied and exciting outdoor classrooms in Devon.
Drawing on the rich history of the estate and in a new and exciting partnership with Ambios Ltd, the Sharpham Outdoors Project strives to build closer links between the human and natural world. It provides opportunities for reconnecting people with themselves, each other, and to the land through developing practical skills to help create a more sustainable future.
The Sharpham Outdoors Project offers innovative, creative and practical programmes for adults, young people, children and families. As well as a number of stand-alone programmes, some courses integrate approaches from Sharpham’s Mindfulness, Arts and Enquiry work.
The Project is in the process of developing its base of operations at Lower Sharpham Barton Farm. This is where it will work together with The Sharpham Trust and the Robert Owen Communities to look after the land and people that use it.
A place to get active
In the words of our visitors
- As my son is Autistic, I know that he can be very difficult especially in group situations. I am very used to picking him up from school or groups with the teacher or leader looking very serious and wanting "a chat" about him which usually leads somewhere difficult. It has been lovely to see you come round the corner with him and you both smiling and you bringing positivity with you about him. Thank you for seeing in him the boy I know he is. I just wanted to let you know as it has meant a lot to me and a lot to him.
- Jane (parent)
